POSITION TITLE: Medical Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Medical Clinics
REPORTS TO: Director of Clinic Operations
BASIC FUNCTION: A Medical Assistant is a professional, multi-skilled person who assists in all aspects of medical practice under the supervision of a Provider; a Physician, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant. Assists Providers in treating patients. Assesses needs, provides laboratory procedures as appropriate and ensures proper follow-up care. Provides medication and treatment under supervision of a physician. Is expected to work regularly scheduled hours as assigned, according to the needs of the facility.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Graduation from an approved certified medical assistant program. Experience: Prefer one year of experience in a clinic-type setting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of organization policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Skill in preparing and maintaining records. Participation in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly.

WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. Frequent exposure to conditions common to a medical/clinical facility, such as exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation and medical preparations. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
