POSITION TITLE: Family Nurse Practitioner

DEPARTMENT: Medical Clinics

REPORTS TO:  Director of Clinic Operations

BASIC FUNCTION:  Responsible for rendering professional clinical assistance to patients within the medical practice in support of the Physician and as directed by the Physician.  Working directly with the Physician, the Nurse Practitioner is the liaison between the patient and the Physician for establishing and maintaining quality patient care.  Obtains a health history, assesses health-related status; enters a person into the health care system; supervises and manages care regimens for the Medical Center patients.  Instructs in all aspects of health maintenance and health care.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Education:  Graduate of an accredited nursing school, current RN license with Colorado State Board of Nursing.  Graduate of a formal Nurse Practitioner program.  Must possess a Nurse Practitioner Certificate, or be eligible to take the next examination.    Experience:   Prefer two years clinical experience nursing in a hospital setting.  ACLS certification every two years required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Provides comprehensive health assessments; demonstrates a high level of autonomy; demonstrates expert skill in diagnoses and treatment to manage acute and chronic and/or injury; promotes wellness through health education.  Adheres to the scope of practice as established by the Colorado Nurse Practice Act.  Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with residents, medical staff, co-workers and the public.  Ability to maintain quality control standards.  Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.  Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.  Ability to communicate clearly.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.   Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.  Frequent exposure to conditions common to a medical/clinical facility, such as exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation and medical preparations.
